The Thing About Pam

The Thing About Pam is a mini-series that came out in 2022 staring Renee Zellweger, Josh Duhamel and Judy Greer.

The mini-series is based on a real situation that happened in 2011 about the murder of Betsy Faria.

The show did do a great depiction of what happened with in the case and from what I understand Pam Hupp is still in jail for what she has done despite having a plea that says that she is not guilty of what she is charged of doing.

I ended up doing my own research on the case and it is worthy of a TV show despite the real Pam Hupp most likely not really approving of the show at all and she is most likely not getting any money from the show being made. The question is, does she really deserve any money from the show as it is about her?

I find that for TV, that the seasons are shorter and that they are doing mini-series instead of shows which leads me to think that they have run out of original ideas or that basing them on true events just ends up making them more money at the end of the day. Either way for only six episodes it is OK to watch but for me it does not have any re-watch value. Am I happy that I watched it? Yes, because it got me exposed to a true crime story that I didn’t know anything about before and I did learn something, but did I wish I would have watched something else? Yes.

Watching the program did get me interested in a few other true crime mini-series out there but I do hope that more do not come out and that this doesn’t become more of a thing because I feel like it is becoming or has become more sensationalized. The last thing that I want is for someone to think that doing something wrong is a good idea. Would I want a mini-series done on me? No, especially if I am not going to get any money including residuals on it.

Would I recommend it? Yeah, I guess but ultimately, I think that it is OK if you do not want to, just do some research on the subject matter instead. Renee Zellweger did do a fantastic job portraying the character.
